Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of CLG Naomh Aodán Feárna (Ferns St. Aidans GAA Club) will be held in Ferns Community Centre on Friday December 9, 2022, beginning at 8:30 p.m. sharp. You are cordially invited to attend.
The AGM will be held in accordance with the new Club Constitution which was approved at Congress in February 2021. The new Constitution applies to all GAA clubs. It includes stipulations regarding the holding of a club Annual General Meeting, and we are obliged to abide by them.
Specifically, the new Constitution brings two key changes to the manner in which the AGM of CLG Naomh Aodán Fearna has been conducted in the past:
1. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Articles 7.2 and 7.4 of the Constitution combine to mean that the following positions must be filled at AGM:
Chairperson; Vice Chairperson; Treasurer; Secretary; Registrar; Irish & Cultural Officer; PRO; Children’s Officer; Players’ Representative; Assistant Secretary*; Coaching Officer*
*New positions added since the approval of the new Constitution in February 2021.
In accordance with the Constitution, the positions of Children’s Officer and Irish & Cultural Officer are appointed rather than elected. The Players’ Representative is selected by playing members prior to AGM.
In addition, the club must appoint not less than five but not more than ten additional committee members. Two of these positions will be filled by the following officers:
Coiste na nÓg Chairperson
County Board Rep
The club therefore has the option of between three and eight other members of the Executive Committee. Nominations for all elected positions may be made via the nomination form which is available for download below. Completed nomination forms must be returned to the Club Secretary before 5 p.m. on Monday December 5. Please email to secretary.ferns.wexford@gaa.ie or leave them at the Centra shop (please clearly mark “Ferns GAA Club AGM” on the envelope).
Motions can also be submitted on the attached form. Details of all nominations and motions received, along with other documents, will be published here by 5 p.m. on Wednesday December 7, for consideration by members prior to AGM.
Following AGM, the Executive Committee may appoint such sub-committees as deemed appropriate, with no limitation on the number of sub-committees or members thereof.
2. APPOINTMENT OF TEAM MANAGERS
Article 7.14 of the Constitution confers the Executive Committee of the club with the sole right to appoint managers/coaches/selectors of teams as required. This means that team managers are no longer appointed by way of nomination (and vote where necessary) at AGM, and are instead appointed by the Executive Committee at a meeting following AGM.
Expressions of interest in becoming a team manager, either on your own behalf or on behalf of another person, may be made to the Club Secretary before the first meeting of the new Executive Committee (to be held in January 2023 – exact date to be announced in due course). These can be sent by email to secretary.ferns.wexford@gaa.ie or by telephone to (087) 6450642. Where there are two or more expressions of interest in the managerial position for any team, the Executive Committee will commence an appropriate selection process.
We look forward to a productive AGM.
