Big Score!
The new-look official Wexford GAA website - www.wexfordgaa.ie - is a great resource for news, fixtures, and results, but as with all of us, mistakes can happen there too. And unfortunately, this is one of them - because our minor hurlers didn't really put up what would surely be a record score of 55 points against Monageer/Boolavogue in their opening game. If they had done, we'd be writing to the Guinness Book of Records right now, instead of writing this! Still, it looks good, all the same...
Goalkeeping Clinic
|
Ferns was the venue on Saturday April 27 for the North County Wexford goalkeeping clinic hosted by one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Damien Fitzhenry of Duffry Rovers.
As the picture above shows, there was a large attendance of goalkeepers of all ages from clubs right throughout the District, and of course, the gathering included a few goalkeepers of our own (seen opposite with Damien himself and with underage mentor, Nick Stafford). The clinic lasted approximately two hours and saw Damien and assistants offer all sorts of valuable advice on keeping the ball out of the net and patrolling the area around the small square. There were lots of shots fired in at lots of the attendees as they tried to put that advice into practice, and a few funny moments too as everybody enjoyed the proceedings but just as importantly, learned lots from it too. Ferns St. Aidans are proud to have hosted the event, and who knows - we could yet see another keeper as good as Damien come out of it! |
Dramatic success!
THE MONTH of April finished off with a dramatic success of sorts for Ferns St. Aidans - and it wasn’t even on the field of play!
Instead, it came in the first of this year’s Model County Development Draws, when first prize of the choice of a brand new Ford Fiesta or Seat Ibiza was won by a local man who’s widely known for his involvement in Ferns Drama Group.
Jimmy Kavanagh of Tombrackwood was the lucky winner, after he purchased a ticket from the selling team of George Warren and Johnny Gethings.
The club had three other winners too, as Brigid Murphy from Clone won a top-of-the-range iPhone 4, while both the well-known Jack Cullen and Tomas ‘Ducker’ Hawkins won €200 each.
We congratulate them all on their good luck, and also thank each and every one of you out there who supported the club by buying a ticket from us. Thanks too to all our selling teams who took to the highways and byways with the tickets.
Because of their efforts, more than 730 tickets were sold altogether, and this translates into a major financial boost for the club to help us to continue operating at all levels from under-8 right through to senior.

Not so lucky this time
After striking the jackpot in the first of this year's Model County Draws in April, we weren't so lucky when the May draw took place, as the club had just one winning ticket this time round. Paul Breen from Clone House was the winner of €200 - enjoy whatever you spend it on Paul, and we hope that some of your luck rubs off on more of us for the third and final draw.
