Defibrillator training
We are aiming to run the first of our defibrillator and Emergency First Responder training courses in July. It - and all subsequent courses - will be held on a Sunday, and take an estimated four to six hours to complete. Team managers and selectors will be offered this training first, so any of them who would like to enrol for the first course (which is free of charge to team mentors) can contact our secretary Sinead at (087) 6450642
Volunteers needed
The club is currently undertaking a number of projects we would appreciate some help with, and volunteers are being sought to sign up for sub-committees in the areas of Finance, Communications, and Child Protection. Anyone who would like to get involved can contact our chairman, Des O'Neill, at (086) 8354969 or else get in touch online the usual way - through the 'contact us' page or by e-mailing fernsgaa@gmail.com
Leinster Champion!
Chris Turner (second from right in the front row of the photo) is our club's newest champion hurler, as he was on the Wexford side that won the Allianz Lift and Strike Cumann na mBunscol Championship for Leinster on Thursday June 16.
Well done to him and the other lads on the side, who are (back row, from left): Shane Doyle, Carroreigh NS; Andrew Walsh, Ballyhack NS; Finn O'Driscoll, Rathangan NS; PJ Barnes, Monaseed NS; Conor Firman, Piercestown NS. Front: Liam Pender (Kiltealy NS); Cathal Devereux (Our Lady's Island NS); Jack Cullen (Gorey CBS), Chris Turner (Ferns NS); Frank Roche (Castletown NS).

Under-8s to play in Croke Park
Our under-8 hurlers have a big day out coming up, as they have been chosen to play in no less an arena than Croke Park as part of an initiative that sees young hurlers and footballers get the chance to line out at HQ.
The Ferns lads will be making the trip on Monday July 11, and they will be taking on Kilkenny opposition in the form of the under-8 team from The Rower/Inistioge.
It seems to have been a while since a Wexford team beat a crowd of 'Cats' at Croker - let's hope the Ferns boys can change that! But no matter what, we wish them well, and are sure they'll have a great day out..

Top prize - again!
We must be the luckiest club in Wexford - where the Model County Development Draw is concerned, anyway!
Niall Maguire this week became the lucky winner of top prize in the third and final draw for 2011, and so he now has the choice of taking either a new Ford Fiesta or Seat Ibiza. This comes after a Ferns ticket also won the top prize in the first of this year's draws back in late April, when Jimmy Kavanagh was the winner - who says lighting doesn't strike twice?
Anyway, it just goes to show the good fortune that can come your way if you support the Model County Draw - and remember, that even if you're not among the winners, you're still supporting the club by buying a ticket in the first place, as a large proportion of the money raised stays within club funds. So thanks again to all who supported us this year, and please do so again when we go round next year with some more of those lucky tickets!
