Five from five

Congratulations to our minor hurling team, who made it five wins from five played in the Division 3 Championship by beating Ballinastragh Gaels by 2-15 to 1-12 on Wednesday evening. This team is going great guns under manager Pat Byrne, and we hope their winning ways continue!

Four on the field

There were four Ferns men on the field on Wednesday evening as Wexford took on Kilkenny in the Leinster Intermediate Hurling Final, but unfortunately, defeat was their lot as the Cats won through by 3-20 to 2-14.
Our own Tommy Dwyer was Wexford's top scorer with 1-5 (0-4 from frees) after playing at midfield, while our other starting player was James Tonks at wing back. Meanwhile, both John Breen and 'Bitsy' O'Connor were introduced during the second half, to complete the quartet.

We had two winners in the third and last Model County Development Draw for 2012. Congratulations go to Jim and Ann Whelan of Ballingale who won the choice of a voucher for Tom Doyle Tiles or €2,000 cash, and to John Dunbar of The Square, who won €500.

Double Congratulations

Congratulations go to club physios Dena and Tom Hogan on the recent birth of baby daughter Tess, a little sister for the three boys they already have. Congratulations to Tom too for his victory today (Sunday) in the Strawberry Half Marathon in Enniscorthy, in as tight a finish as you'll ever see in a race over that distance.

Learning from the best

Our under-10 and under-12 footballers had a chance to learn from the best on Thursday (June 20), when Wexford county senior manager Jason Ryan took them for a training session at 6 p.m. in advance of the inter-county panel training on our grounds later on that evening. All our lads thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it's probably fair to say that our underage mentors who were there learned a bit from it too! Thanks go to Jason for his efforts, and also to Ben Bernie for helping to arrange the session through 'Club Wexford'.

Fixtures News
- Posted on June 6 at 11.50 a.m.
A fixtures update has just been issued by the County Board, with the big news for Ferns being that our intermediate footballers return to championship action next Wednesday evening (June 13), when they take on Craanford in Camolin at 8 p.m.
As these sides were already due to play in the League this weekend, the fixture in Camolin will double up as that league tie too, rather than making the sides play each other twice in the space of a few days.
The other news concerns both our junior hurling teams. First, the Junior 'B' side will play Craanford at home in the championship on Friday June 15 at 8 p.m., while the following Friday (June 22), the Junior 'A' side returns to championship action with a tie against Crossabeg/Ballymurn in Monageer at 8 p.m.

Christy Ring Cup
- Posted on June 5 at 1.33 p.m.
We wish the best of luck to Ferns man Ed Walsh and his colleagues on the London senior hurling team as they go in search of the Christy Ring Cup when they take on Wicklow in Croke Park this Saturday afternoon (June 9) at 4 p.m.
Ed, who is currently a member of the Robert Emmtets club, was corner back on the London side that beat Down in a replay in the semi-final at the weekend, and is likely to be picked there again for the final. We hope his trip to Croke Park turns out to be a good one!

One narrow defeat - and one big one
- Posted on June 5 at 1.27 p.m.
Our senior hurlers went down narrowly to Oulart/The Ballagh in their All County Hurling League match on Bank Holiday Monday, losing only by 1-19 to 2-12 in what was a close game throughout. Both sides were somewhat understrength, but it was a useful work-out for our lads as they continue their preparations for when the championship resumes later in the summer.
Unfortunately, it was a different story for an understrength junior team, as they slumped to a heavy 6-16 to 1-9 defeat to Rapparees back in Ferns on the same day. This means they are still without a win in the league, with just one game left, against Shelmaliers.

Hard luck story

Hard luck to our junior hurlers on being beaten by Rathnure by 2-12 to 3-7 in a close game at Fr Murphy Park on Friday evening. A great goal from Keith Rynhart was the highlight from a Ferns point of view, and he added another later in the game for good measure, whille the first goal of the evening had come from the stick of PT. Ferns were looking good for victory as they led by four points with five minutes to go, but then Rathnure struck for a crucial goal and a couple of points to turn the game round, and just about sneak the win.
