Lotto numbers drawn last night were 5, 6, 26 and 29, and there was no jackpot winner.
Lucky Dip winners were Siobhán Stafford, Helen Tonks, Gavin Breen, and Fergal Mulhall. The next jackpot will be €11,700. Our senior and junior hurlers both took on HWH/Bunclody in a couple of challenge matches today - the first day that games were allowed to resume as part of the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Our seniors were without our five county men (three senior, and two U-20) and also had to line out without a couple of others due to injury, but still won an entertaining game on a scoreline of 2-19 to 3-14. Our juniors had things much easier, and won by 4-17 to 1-7. Both management teams must have been happy enough with what they saw today, and hopefully they'll see lots more victories as the year goes on too. The long-awaited 2020 Shield Finals for our U13 and U15 hurlers are to take place over the coming weeks. First up is the U15 Final on Saturday June 12, where Sliabh Bhuí Gaels (the Ferns/Clonee combination) will take on Clougbawn. The match will be in Oylegate and throw-in time will be 10.30 a.m. On the following Saturday, June 19, the U13 SBG team will take on Clongeen in their own decider in Wexford Park. Again, there'll be an early start, as throw-in time will also be 10.30 a.m. We wish the very best of luck to both teams. There's no escaping that it was a disappointing result for Wexford today against Kilkenny in the National Hurling League, but from a club point of view, it was great to see three Ferns men on the field.
James acquitted himself well in the goal, Gavin was the first man brought on when change was needed, and it was great to see Paul back in action too. We hope there'll be better days ahead, and that our lads will continue to feature. Groups have been announced for the All County Hurling and Football Leagues, which are due to begin on the weekend of June 11/12.
Leagues have been re-organised this year into North and South groups, with senior and intermediate teams being groups together, and the same happening for intermediate 'A' and junior. In addition, the groups have been set up so that no club will have to play any club they've been drawn against in the championship. Another point to note is that there will be no league finals this year. Our senior hurlers are in the Division 1B North group with Crossabeg/Ballymurn, Naomh Éanna, HWH/Bunclody, Askamore, and Ballygarrett. Our junior hurlers are in Division 3 North with Rathnure, Naomh Éanna, Tara Rocks, Buffers Alley, and Oulart/The Ballagh. Our intermediate footballers are in Division 1B North with St. Martin's, Starlights, Kilanerin, Naomh Éanna, and Crossabeg/Ballymurn. The football league is to begin on the weekend of June 11/12, with the hurling beginning the following weekend, and games to run right through to the August Bank Holiday weekend. The championship is then to begin the week after that. With the recent return to play, some people have been asking again where they can buy official club gear. The full range is available directly from the O'Neills shop online. You earn 500 loyalty points (worth €5 off an order) when you create an account there, and earn further points on every order you place, that can be used against further orders there. The club also earns credit there for every purchase a member or supporter makes, and we use this credit to buy gear for our teams. Apart from special occasions such as Christmas, we do not take orders directly for club gear ourselves. Lotto numbers drawn last night were 2, 6, 7 and 16, and there was no jackpot winner.
Lucky Dip winners were Jack & Sean Moulds; Myles & Carmel O'Neill; Martin Whelan, and Paddy Mernagh. The next draw will be on Tuesday June 8, and the jackpot will be €11,400. Work on installing new lighting around our walkway will begin this evening (Tuesday May 18th), and as a result, the walkway will be closed until work is complete.
We ask people to bear with us in the meantime, and we promise that it'll all be worth it in the end! We had some happy faces at training last night as they received their prizes of new boots, after being picked as winners in our children's colouring and "Design Your Own Jersey" competitions. Congratulations again to Zoe Tobin, DJ O'Dowd, and Adam Rossiter.
The draws for the 2021 Wexford Club Championship draws have just taken place, and our senior hurlers are in a group with Glynn/Barntown and St. Martin's.
Intermediate footballers are grouped with St. Fintan's and St. Mary's (Maudlintown), while our junior hurlers are in a group with Glynn/Barntown and Ballyhogue. Remember there are 13 teams in the senior championship this year, so here's how it will work:
Finally, championships are provisionally scheduled to start on the weekend of August 8, but that's subject to change. |
