Our senior hurlers earned a valuable championship point against Faythe Harriers today, as the sides played out a 1-15 to 0-18 draw in Bellefield.
It moves us up to three points in the table, and with both Rapparees and Naomh Eanna both still stuck on two, it means we'll escape a relegation play-off if either of those lose their last match (Rapps will play St. Martin's, and Naomh Eanna will play the Harriers). Today's point would even be enough to put us through to the quarter-finals if both Rapps and Naomh Eanna lose.
It was a see-saw game today, as we looked to be in for another hiding when we trailed by 0-7 to 0-1 after just ten minutes, but we recovered well to trail by just points (0-9 to 0-7) at the break.
We drew level in the second half, and then went ahead by as much as four points at one stage, largely thanks to a Chris Turner goal. Back came the Harriers though, and there was actually a six-point turnaround as they again led by two coming to the end of 60 minutes, only for Ferns to dig it out again and earn a draw.
It wasn't good for the heart, but at least the performance was a step up on the last day, and hopefully the team will continue to improve.
