A big well done from all in the club to Gavin Bailey, who was the TG4 Man of the Match today in Wexford's victory over Laois in the opening round of the National Hurling League. Gavin lined out at wing back and put in a sterling defensive display as well as weighing in with two points at the other end, as Wexford scored a 4-17 to 0-10 victory. He acquitted himself well in front of the TV cameras after the match too! Sincere congratulations, Gavin - we're all proud of you. Winners in our children's colouring and "Design your own jersey" competitions are....(drum roll!)....Zoe Tobin, DJ O'Dowd, and Adam Rossiter.
Congratulations to all three. They win a pair of new boots each. We'll be in touch with the families to see about sizes, etc. We've just got our first fixtures notice of the year - and there's silverware at stake! It's for the replay of the 2020 Gorey District Junior 'B' Hurling Shield Final between ourselves and Ballygarrett, and it's to take place on the weekend of June 25/26/27. Remember training can resume next week......
To celebrate the Return to Play for underage teams from April 26th onwards, we're holding competitions for children up to Sixth Class in school. Junior and Senior Infants are being invited to take part in a colouring competition, while there are "Design your own kit" competitions for older age groups. Entry forms are being distributed through local schools, but you can also download and print off the forms using the links below. The links here can be used too for any children who don't attend local schools, as the competitions are open to all who play hurling, football or camogie in Ferns, no matter where they go to school. Just take a photo of your picture when complete, and share it on our Facebook or Instagram page, to be in with a chance of winning a new pair of boots. Good luck to all. We look forward to seeing lots of colourful entries - and we look forward to seeing you all in the field in a couple of weeks too! Massive thanks to all who took part in March on Together, for the great effort everybody made. It was a great effort by a huge number of people, and we hope everybody's feeling fitter and healthier too! Massive thanks too to all who have sponsored people so far. We ask that all runners/walkers collect any outstanding sponsorship this week, and pass everything on to their team leaders before the weekend. The Go Fund Me page is still open - just use the button below.
There was good news from a GAA point of view in today's Government announcement about easing of Covid-19 restrictions, as underage teams will be allowed to return to training from April 26th onwards.
Training will be in small groups and will be non-contact, but at least we'll be back in the field! Individual managers will soon be letting their squads know about training schedules, and we'll soon be finalising our pitch schedule for the year too. Looking forward to it! Show your support for the club while staying safe! Our exclusive Ferns St. Aidans face mask is now available in our new online club shop. Masks are reusable and suitable for people of all ages. These masks will be available for a limited time only, as orders are being taken only until Friday March 12th. Masks should then be available for collection approximately two weeks later. Masks cost €5 each, or three for €12. Our first big fundraiser of 2021 is March on Together. It's to raise money to install new and improved floodlighting around the hugely-popular walking track at club grounds. A portion of all money raised will also be donated to Wexford Hospice Homecare Services. March on Together is a walking/running challenge where we're asking people to cover 100km in 30 days, and collect sponsorship while they do so. It will run from Saturday March 6th to Sunday April 4th (Easter Sunday). For more details, see our event page by tapping the button below.
