Castletown Indoor Hurling Tournament
Our under-12 hurlers got 2011 off to a great start when claiming victory in the Castletown/Liam Mellows Indoor Tournament in March. In the early rounds of the competition at the impressive Chris Murray Arena, they beat Ballinastragh Gaels, the hosts Castletown/Liam Mellows, and Blackwater; drew with Marshalstown and Craanford; and lost only to Craanford in a second match when they were already through. They then beat Ballinstragh Gaels again in the semi-final by 5-0 to 1-0, and in a thriller of a final, they beat Castletown/Liam Mellows by 4-0 to 2-1 to take the title.
The Ferns panel on finals night consisted of James Lawlor, Jason Murphy, Patrick O’Hagan, Joseph McHale, Niall Murphy, Shane Stafford, James O’Grady, William James Bolger, Conor Jordan, Glen Williams, John Kehoe, Gary Breslin, Liam Murphy, Mick Berry, Jeff Tobin, Kevin ‘Legend’ Stafford, Dylan Earle, Conor Scallan, Brian O’Neill, Evan Ryan, Michael O’Brien, and Stephen Warren. Others who played their part along the way but were unable to attend on finals night included Lee Quigley, Alex Sutton, Kyle McHale and Robert Murphy. Team mentors were Nick Stafford (manager), George Warren, Martin Ryan, Pat O'Hagan and Jim Berry.
