Mammies Football Match
Well, it's hard to know what to say about this one, other than it promised to be one of the highlights of the Family Fun Day and it certainly proved to be that! Mammies of some of our younger players - and even some of the older ones - lined out for fifteen minutes each way of football, even if the term 'football' was sometimes applied fairly loosely! There was a bit of rugby in there too with the number of 'scrums' that developed; there was a bit of basketball with the number of times the ball was thrown rather than legally hand-passed; and there was even a bit of Olympic-style handball too, with the ball being thrown or carried into the net in the way a Meath forward might do in a Leinster Final! Referee Padraig Dunbar seemed to miss many of those throw-balls, particularly for the red and white side - nothing to do with not wanting to give free's against his mother's team, mind you! Yes, Elsie lined out in goal, at what we're told is somewhere just past the three score and ten mark - making her officially the oldest player ever to tog out for a match at the pitch. Fair play to you Elsie - and we hear you're getting in training for next year's match already, so that you can move out to midfield!
